Troubleshooting Thermostat Issues

There is nothing worse on a hot summer day than realizing your home just isn’t getting to the desired temperature you want. Your first instinct might be that there's an issue with your HVAC system, but don’t panic — it could just be your thermostat!

If you are finding any of the below problems, here’s how to know it’s just a quick fix to your thermostat:

The AC or Heat is Constantly Turning On

Though the cause of this issue can often lie with your system itself, this could often be a thermostat problem. If you notice that your thermostat has excess sunlight just shining directly on it, it might be time to either invest in some new curtains or find a new location to place it. Placement is key, and you’ll want to keep your thermostat away from windows and doors, far from the kitchen, and a reasonable distance away from any sunlight. A wrong location can not only cause the system to go on continually — it can lead to inaccurate readings, too.

Your System Won’t Stop Running

The sound of your HVAC system continually running could be a bit concerning, but it’s probably less of an issue than you realize and could just be the fan that you're hearing. Your fan setting could be set to “Fan On” instead of “Fan Auto.” By switching it to auto, the fan will only be running when your air conditioning is on. For a more energy efficient home, this is a must!

The Wiring Isn’t Right

If you’ve tried every setting in your thermostat, but your system still won’t turn on — your wiring could be to blame. Whether it’s loose or a disconnected wire, there could be a connection issue to your HVAC system. You might be able to fix the problem with just a simple tightening or wiring replacement. Take a look and reach out to our experts to help set the issue.
