Do you ever feel like you’re spending more and more money on your monthly bills and less on the things you want? If so, look to lower your energy bills by changing how you live. With just a few quick chores, next month’s energy bill will see a significant drop.
Seal Your Home
Now is the time where you need to start preparing for the cool weather.
Inspect your home thoroughly for drafty windows and doors that need to
be sealed. Apply paint-friendly caulk to any cracks on window and door
frames. Also, utilize weatherstripping for windows and doors that don’t
perfectly fit their frames. Otherwise, all of your warm indoor air will
escape outside, causing your HVAC system to work harder.
Lower the Water Heater
When you purchase a hot water heater the stock temperature is anywhere
from 140 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn down the temperature to the ideal
setting of 120 degrees. Since this fixture is running constantly, heating
the water those extra 20 to 30 degrees can add up in your monthly bills.
Change Air Filters
The air filters associated with your HVAC system should be changed every
month or two. When too much dust and debris clogs up the filters it can
impede the flow of air to and from the ductwork. This will cause your
HVAC system to work harder, wasting more money than is needed. A quick
changing of air filters will save you money, cut down on wear and tear
of your unit, and increase the indoor air quality of your home.
Cutting down on the amount of energy you use each month can be easily done with just a few quick maintenance tasks.
