Can People Use Dish Soap in Dishwashers?
As it's known, there are seven wonders of the world — however, we think we might have found the eighth: can you put dish soap in the dishwasher? While the name of this cleansing liquid bears the word “dish,” that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s safe to use inside of your appliance.
If you’re still on the fence about using dish soap in your dishwasher, here are some wise words of advice to carefully consider.
Avoid Using Dish Soap in Your Dishwasher
As you may have guessed, using dish soap in your dishwasher is not the best choice. Think about it like this: when you use dish soap in the sink (whether used to clean dinnerware or your hands), it tends to foam up the minute you start lathering. Now, when this product is used in place of dishwasher-safe soap, it can cause a very sudsy situation inside of your appliance (and all over your kitchen floor).
When the dishwasher is in use, soap will begin to foam up inside and have nowhere else to travel except outside the edges of your appliance — which may be comical at first but is a headache to clean up.
Why Dish Detergent is the Safest Choice
Unlike dish soap, dish detergent is specially-crafted to be used within your appliance. Since this is the case, it doesn’t form suds or bubbles, leaving you with sparkling clean dishes (and clean floors) once the cycle has finished.
And while there are some safer, DIY methods to help clean your dishes (if you do not have detergent on hand), we always recommend only using dish detergent in your dishwasher.
