Water Conservation Tips

  • Installing a new flapper and fill valve on your toilet will keep your toilet running efficiently
  • Only run your clothes washer and dishwasher when they are full
  • Check outdoor faucets, hoses, and sprinklers for leaks
  • Be sure that the water pressure in your home is below 60 pounds per square inch. This information should be available to you through your local water authority.
  • Check the setting on your home’s water heater. It should be kept below 120°F or medium setting.
  • Replace old shower heads. If your showerhead can fill a one-gallon bucket in less than 20 seconds, replacing it will save you on water and on your bill.
  • Put food coloring in your toilet’s tank. If it seeps into the toilet bowl without flushing you have a leak. Repair will save 1,000 gallons a month.
  • Know where your main water shutoff valve is located.
  • Winterize outdoor spigot before temperatures reach below freezing. This will prevent pipes from bursting or leaking.
